Naju Miraculous Spring Water - the background story

Hello, everyone! We really welcome you back to Show Me the Naju Fact today. In the last broadcast, we checked the fact on the water quality of Naju Miraculous Spring Water and its scientific evidence. As promised, we’d like to find out this time why the Lord granted Miraculous Spring Water in Naju Shine, and why amazing healing has been occurring through the Water. We’ll satisfy your curiosity one by one. Let’s invite our three panelists to talk with us today! Welcome!

Maria Kwon :  This is your first time here. Please introduce yourself.

Rufino : 

I’m Park Rufino, who volunteered as a guide at the Blessed Mother’s House in Naju since 1987. It’s been 37 years since I met Julia.

Maria Kwon :

I think you two’ve been together for a very long time. So you can share more details about what you’ve seen to those who are watching the show today. In our last episode, we talked about some healing cases that even cured cancer by the Miraculous Spring Water. I think viewers may wonder how such a miracle could happen.

Peter Park : 

Yes, Miraculous Spring Water is specially given by the Lord and the Blessed Mother. Jesus said, “I will give you the Miraculous Spring Water which is filled with love and grace and from which your souls and bodies will be healed.” And the Blessed Mother also said, “I will let them come to this Miraculous Spring to drink the water, dip themselves in it, and wash themselves with it, and I will even completely heal their souls and bodies which are distorted and stained by the sins of the secular world.”

Maria Kwon : 

As you said, Our Lord and the Blessed Mother even heal our bodies and souls that were distorted and stained with sins of this secular world through the Miraculous Spring Water. Then why did the Lord make such great promises?

Rufino : 

The original story of the Miraculous Spring Water goes back to the year 1989. On Dec. 21,

Bishop Ji of Won-ju Diocese, called Julia to ask for prayers because of his persistent hiccup despite treatment in hospital.

“Julia should come and pray for me”

Usually, hiccups stop easily, but the bishop suffered because his hiccups persisted despite receiving hospital treatment at a university hospital in Seoul. Julia was in the midst of her pain, but she went to the hospital in Seoul where the bishop was hospitalized. After she prayed over him, his hiccup was healed immediately.

Maria Kwon : 

I think he must be in a very serious case to the point that he should be hospitalized because of a simple hiccup. But after Julia’s prayer, the bishop was immediately healed! What does it have to do with the Miraculous Spring Water?

Rufino : 

I’m telling you because it is related to why the Lord granted the Miraculous Spring Water (in Naju). On January 8, 1990, Bishop Ji’s hiccup relapsed and couldn’t go away. And he made a phone call to Julia, saying, “Julia, please come and pray for me.” But Julia was hospitalized at the Naju General Hospital because of her spondylolisthesis, severe ruptured disc and spondylizema. After hearing that, he came to Naju the next day and stayed at the Su-gang Apt. where the Statue of the Blessed Mother was.

Maria Kwon :

So the Bishop himself came (to Naju) to be prayed over by Julia.

Rufino : 

Yes. At that time, Julia, who was hospitalized, asked for permission of absence from the hospital, to attend Mass celebrated by Bishop Ji, which was held every day in the Su-gang Apt. Julia prayed over the Bishop every day in the Chapel.

At the time, the Bishop witnessed the statue of the Blessed Mother was moving and shedding Tears many times. The bishop was then cured of other diseases as well as hiccups.

But the bishop wanted to stay with Julia, so she was discharged from the hospital to accommodate him. Then Bishop Ji said he wanted to drink good mineral water. So, Julia asked around and found that the water of Mt. Biseul in Daegu was good, and she went to get the water on Jan 18, 1990, in frigid snowy winter.

Maria Kwon : 

Oh, as you said, Julia went to Daegu, looking for the good water for the bishop even though she should have been hospitalized.

Rufino : 

Yes, in order to give him good water, Julia responded with ‘Amen’ and I accompanied her.

Maria Kwon : 

Since you went with her, could you elaborate on the situation?

Rufino : 

Yes, at that time, Julia’s back was in such dangerous condition that even the doctor said surgery was the only solution. Besides, the weather was very cold and it was just after a heavy snow. So all of us tried to stop her. But Julia said, “I have to go.”

So we took a 20-liter container and went to Mt. Bi-seul with her, and the height of the mountain was 1080m covered with snow and ice. It was too steep and dangerous to climb. Even a healthy person could hardly climb it, and it definitely looked impossible for Julia to climb up the mountain and get the water there.

Maria Kwon : 

I think it would have been impossible just hearing it. Couldn’t anyone else try to help?

Rufino : 

We asked the villagers to help us. In spite of the high cost of hiring them, all the villagers refused, “Who will be responsible if we go up there just to earn some money when we slip and cripple ourselves, or may even possibly die there?”

Peter Park : 

Yes, I think they kept Julia from doing it out of worry for her, but in actual fact they did not dare climb the mountain themselves at that time.

Rufino : 

Right. We couldn’t possibly think of climbing up such a high mountain that was covered with snow and ice. Easier said than done, but you could never imagine how dangerous it was if you were not in that situation.

Maria Kwon : 

Yes, from what you told us, I can guess how tough it was. Although Julia at that time had to be hospitalized, how could she possibly climb the mountain?

Sr. Michaella : 

Yes, it is a transcendent power of love. When Julia’s heart is aflame with love, there’s nothing impossible for her. ‘What would I mind doing if it is done for the sake of the Bishop chosen by the Lord? My spine is collapsing with a herniated disc. But just as the Lord walked up Mt. Calvary carrying the heavy Cross, I’m going to participate in the pain that He suffered!’ She made up her mind and climbed up the mountain with the container.

Rufino: 

That’s right. After slipping, tripping, and falling several times under that biting cold, she could finally reach the mineral spring and filled the 20L container with water. The path was steep down the mountain, and carrying the water container on her head was too dangerous. Though she fell a dozen times, she was still glad to offer up her sufferings graciously for the Bishop by turning them into prayers.

Maria Kwon :

She came down from the mountain covered with snow and ice carrying the 20-liter water container on her head despite suffering from lumbar disc, spondylolisthesis and spondylizema! It’s unbelievable!

Rufino : 

Yeah, but when she was barely reaching the flat ground where their car was parked, Julia fell down severely as if she suddenly stumbled over something.

She fell down with the container, with her hands spread out like the Lord was nailed to the Cross. The water container frozen in the extreme cold weather was smashed wetting all her body. The water that soaked Julia’s body became frozen immediately and some of the water that splashed on my trousers formed into icicles. Julia was unable to move with her whole body covered with freezing water, but she cried out with her face on the ground.

Julia : 

“O my loving Lord! Do You love me, a sinner, this much? Do You wish to wash away dirt from my soul by pouring onto my body shrunk by the bone-chilling wind the water I carried with much pain and with the spirit of martyrdom? The water spilled onto the ground but You already blessed it, so let the efficacy of the water be spiritually conveyed to the Bishop.

When You were dying on the Cross, You shed Your Precious Blood. What else could this be than the pouring of the love of God who is the Creator? You overcame evil by turning it into good, and taught us how to win victory. So I can be joyful and happy like this.

I, a feeble sinner, can breathe and work only in You who are the profound Truth. Therefore, even if all my bones should be broken and crushed, I would feel no pain. Even when I writhe in pain, I am always grateful to You, who are my joy.”

Jesus : 

“O My darling child, My little soul who tries to lower herself even more! Also today I receive great consolation and joy from your gracious offering. The devils are rampantly employing all kinds of methods to defeat you who are always united with me. But today again you have gained victory over them, giving all glory to me and not complaining about the situation you have been subjected to.

Who could possibly mimic such innocent, simple, fervent and sublime love of yours? When you follow me with the spirit of martyrdom, you will always win triumph in the spiritual battle and save many souls.”

Maria Kwon :

I think it’s a prayer of gracious offering up that I’ve never heard from anywhere. So with all the water spilled all over, she couldn’t get the water at all?

Rufino : 

Though we implored her to go back home stamping our feet because it was getting too dark already and it was getting too cold, but she still went downtown to buy another container and climbed up the mountain again.

Maria Kwon :

She didn’t give up but went up the mountain again, although it was already dark?

Rufino : 

Yeah. Please think about it : In the deep mountains, every time the biting wind pierced her wet body, it was as painful as it was cutting into her flesh and every time when her frosted foot was hit by a branch or a stone, it was too painful as if her bones were broken by the hammer. But, she gladly offered up the pain for the bishop by turning it into prayers.

Peter Park : 

Yes, Julia has always devoted her whole life with love and sacrifice, wishing for other’s benefit and peace only even if she had to sacrifice her comfort.

In her same thinking, ‘If the bishop takes the mineral water and does more works for the glory of the Lord, what greater glory will be there?’ And she joyfully offered up sacrifices in her spirit of martyrdom and love, praying ‘I belong only to the Lord whether if I die or live. May the Lord’s will be fulfilled!’

Rufino : 

It was already dark when she was going down the mountain with the mineral water on her head risking her life. Though it was not full moon yet, the light illuminated her all the way downhill.

Peter Park : 

Yeah, it’s amazing that the dark mountain road was illuminated brightly. It must be the Lord who did it because He was touched by Julia’s great love and sacrifice for others. Even saints as well, He sent angels to guide them or help them in person also!

Sr. Michaella : 

Yes, that’s right. Going down the mountain carrying the water on her head with much pain, she prayed like this 

Julia : 

“O my Lord, my Love, my All! It is all by virtue of Your power of love that I have been alive until now despite my unworthiness. If by chance I had offered up much devotion and love to You, it would also have been possible thanks to Your endless love and care. I am going to give much love to the least just as You have loved me, an unworthy sinner, so dearly like this.”

Jesus : 

“Yes, my beloved daughter, my little soul! I will work miracles of love in your heart which perceives my love. You have lived a life of showing love and generosity to your neighbors from childhood, not caring about yourself. It was, of course, the way that I prepared for you, but if you had rejected it through your own free will, I could not have forced it.  

Even in the midst of your severe pain, you did not spare yourself but only wished to have your neighbors drink good water. For the realization of this, not only here but also in Lourdes, you united your sufferings accompanied by love and sacrifice with My sufferings on the Cross with all your heart and with the spirit of martyrdom. How could I then remain indifferent and just watch it? In the not-too-distant future, through my Mother, I will give you a Miraculous Spring close to your place, which will overflow with love and grace and through which souls and bodies can be healed.”

Julia : “I, an unworthy and lowly sinner, only did what I was supposed to do.”

Jesus : 

“Yes, that’s it. As you give all glory to me at every moment, I can live in your heart. Because your words of fervent love towards me are far sweeter than any other heavenly music composed to sing my glory and Alleluia, my Sacred Heart wounded by the sins of the world is much comforted and filled with joy.”

Maria Kwon : 

Oh, so when Jesus saw the dedicated love and devotion of Julia, He promised to give her the Miraculous Spring Water.

Sr. Michaella : Yes, That’s right.

Maria Kwon : 

I’m telling you today that there is a unique story like this behind the Miraculous Spring Water.

SMTNF#7 – Part 2

Maria Kwon : 

Let’s continue to talk about Naju Miraculous Spring Water. Here we have Mr. Julio Kim, the president of ‘Mary’s Ark of Salvation’. For the first time viewers who haven’t seen you before, could you please introduce yourself?

Julio :

Yes, I’m Julio Kim. I’m husband of Julia Kim. It’s been 54 years since I met Julia. We’ve been married for 49 years.

Maria Kwon : 

Wow, 54 years. You’ve been together quite for a long time. Just listening to your introduction, I think you’ll be able to tell us a lot of more vivid history of Naju than anyone else. Now we are looking into the background history of the granting of the Naju Miraculous Spring Water. When Jesus promised to give Julia Miraculous Spring Water, He mentioned “Lourdes” in His Message. Why did He mention ‘Lourdes’?

Julio : 

Yeah, in April 1988, Father Oh, Ki-sun said, “Julia, you should visit Fatima and Lourdes.” So Julia accompanied Fr. Oh Ki-sun on his pilgrimage to Europe.

Maria Kwon : You mentioned about Fr. Oh, Ki-sun. Who is Fr. Oh, Ki-sun?

Julio : 

He is a well known priest who is deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother. When he witnessed the Tears from the statue of the Blessed Mother of Naju, he was elated and said, “Now such miracles are occurring in Korea also!” Later he became the spiritual director of Julia. On his pilgrimage with Julia to Europe, Lourdes was the first place they visited.

Maria Kwon : What happened to them at Lourdes?

Julio : 

During their pilgrimage, a male pilgrim in the group threw a 24-liter water container away because it was too heavy to carry. When Julia saw it, she picked and cleaned up the container, praying for the souls not to be discarded like the container by turning it into a prayer. And she filled the container again with the Miraculous Water of Lourdes to give it to her family and other Naju pilgrims in Korea. So she carried it back with her.

At the time, Julia had severe back pains. She carried not only the big water container, but also the five-liter water bottle from Father Oh, Ki-sun who handed it to her because of the heavy weight, together with 33 miraculous water bottles bearing the image of the Blessed Mother of Lourdes. she carried them all the way throughout the pilgrimage.

Furthermore, Julia also took care of a heavy-built grand ma’am among the pilgrim group. That grand ma’am weighed well over 90 kg. It was even difficult for a man to take care of her (He became sick after only one day). But Julia did all. Because she had to bear these burdens, with the lady’s baggage, she was almost dying. She carried all of those stuffs with her everyday throughout the entire pilgrimage, but yet she never gave up.

What do you mean by she carried the water all the way with her?

These days, we travel easy by tour bus from one city to another in Europe. But at the time, there was no flexible transportation available to go around every corner.

She traveled all the way to Lourdes in France, Fatima in Portugal, Assisi and Rome in Italy, Banneux in Belgium, Liberia, and Israel, etc, (dozens of sites) for about a month. And tthey had to change transport modes taking vehicles; air planes, trains, buses, etc.

So it was really hard for her to take all the things.

Furthermore, throughout the journey, Julia had to look after the heavy-build grand ma’am with her heavy baggage. Indeed, it was really burdensome work even for three big men to shoulder.

Maria Kwon : 

Hearing your explanation; the long distance from one place to another, plus the long travel days, carrying heavy water containers and a big old lady with heavy baggage, whom she assisted, I can see clearly how much pain she went through under such a tough situation(also her severe back pains). It was more like a tough military training than a pilgrimage tour.

Sr. Michaella : 

Obviously it was! It’s a transcendent love that goes beyond human limits. Actually Julia Kim’s whole life has been like that. She always practices unconditional love for her neighbours with endless self-sacrifices, and Jesus and the Blessed Mother’s hearts are always touched by her sacrificial love. Seeing so much love and sacrifice for her neighbors, Jesus granted Julia Miraculous Spring Water, especially when she offered sacrificial love to give good mineral water to the bishop.

Maria Kwon : 

I see. Then, when and how did Jesus give her the Naju Miraculous Spring Water?

Peter Park : 

On August 27, 1992, the Blessed Mother showed a vision to Julia. It showed the Blessed Mother was walking up the steep mountain with laundry on Her head, but the laundry was so voluminous that She had to hold them in both of Her hands and also push a basket of laundry forward by Her foot.

Julia was on the right side of the Blessed Mother, and she was climbing up the steep mountain doing exactly what the Blessed Mother was doing. On the left side of the Blessed Mother, Julio (Julia’s husband) was carrying the laundry on both of his hands.

Subtitle : The place where the Blessed Mother’s statue stands is the fountain of Naju Miraculous Spring Water.

Peter Park : 

Then the Blessed Mother stopped in Her tracks. There, the clear water began to flow out, and also flowed down into a large stream from the place where Julia and Julio were standing. The Blessed Mother started doing the laundry there, and there were also countless people drinking the water, bathing, and joyfully playing in it in her vision.

Julio : 

So when it was dawn, she went to the Mountain with Father Chang and some volunteers and found the place that she saw in her vision! At that moment, the Blessed Mother gave her a Message.

Maria Kwon : 

Ah, she found the place that she saw in her vision, and then she got the Message from the Blessed Mother! I think this is a very marvelous grace. Then, what was the Message from the Blessed Mother?

Sr. Michaella : 

Yes, the Blessed Mother said, “My extremely beloved daughter! As I prepared at this place through you, a little soul, this very Spring of Mary’s Ark of Salvation to enable all the children in the world to drink from it, dip themselves in it, and wash themselves with it, so dig the spring without delay. Your heavenly mother will call all the children of the world to come to this place to wash away all the dirt from their sick body and soul, and wipe them clean. I will even penetrate and open up what have been clogging their souls so that they will be able to lead a new life of resurrection.

I will grant abundant graces of repentance to those who accept my little soul, whose life is filled with unselfish love and sacrifices. I will let them come here to the spring of Mary’s Ark of Salvation to drink the water, dip themselves in it, and wash themselves with it, and I will even completely heal their souls and bodies which are distorted and stained by the sins of the secular world.”

Maria Kwon : 

Oh then, the Blessed Mother showed Julia the place in her vision, and instructed her to dig the spot, making promises of graces in Her Messages. Then how did she dig out the Spring of the Miraculous Water?

Julio : 

Well, Julia began digging the ground following the Messages, and each time she dug with her bare hands, the water gushed up spouting with gurgling sound to about 30 cm height. When she kept digging to 7th time, and by the time she dug up to 8th time, all the water merged into one and flowed down forming a large stream.

Maria Kwon : 

You mean she dug the ground with her bare hands?

Julio : Yes, she did.

Maria Kwon : 

Each time she dug, the water gushed up about 30 cm height and for the 8th time, all the water merged into one and flowed down forming into a stream. Is it possible for the water to rise while digging the ground with bare hands?

Peter Park : 

It doesn’t make sense. I think it is just impossible. According to experts, when you dig the ground with your hands in the mountains, water would go down due to gravity even if the ground holds the water. It’s impossible for water to gush up without using a machine to siphon up the spring water from deep underground. It cannot be explained even with our expertise, but it’s a miraculous phenomenon that the water gushed up to 30 cm high spouting with gurgling sound when she dug with her bare hands.”

Sr. Michaella : 

Yes, right. It’s said when Julia dug into the ground, the water flowed down so much that it created a large water puddle. Thus, according to the Words of Jesus: “Before long, I will give you a Miraculous Spring through my Mother at a location not far from your place so that love and grace will overflow and souls and bodies will be healed.” And it was fulfilled.

Maria Kwon : 

It’s so mysterious that she had dug the Miraculous Spring with her bare hands, where water gushed up by itself. As you said that the water rose from the ground after digging a few times, would its quality remain okay?

Julio : 

Oh, let me tell you about it. I was also worried about the water quality because it rose right from underground. At the time, I was working at an agricultural extension office. There was also a soil testing laboratory assessing the quality of the land there.

There was a machine checking water quality. We had to use distilled water for the machine. As it was costly to buy lots of distilled water, we had to use a machine to make distilled water. So, the next day, I took our Miraculous Spring Water to the office and gave it to the person in charge of testing. He was amazed after testing the water. The purity index of distilled water was 0.0286 ppm, but the purity of our Miraculous Spring Water was 0.0200 ppm. So he said, “This machine is defective.” But I said to myself, ‘Oh, it makes sense. The Blessed Mother’s Water is cleaner than distilled water indeed!’ And I was happy.

I spoke to him. “Oh, man, if the machine seems to malfunction, then conduct a re-examination with another water sample.” So the employee compared another sample with distilled water. When he found nothing unusual with repeated tests, he said, “There is nothing wrong with the machine.” When they heard it, everyone was amazed, saying, “And such a good water that is!”

Maria Kwon : 

That’s a really surprising fact. The water quality was cleaner than distilled water, so they thought it was a defaulted machine error, but it wasn’t. The more we conduct fact checks on Naju Miraculous Spring Water, the more mysterious I feel!

Julio : 

At that time, Julia suffered from severe hives for more than 8 years. As the hives were so big and covered all over her body from head to toe, even with hospital treatment, the symptom didn’t go away. So when she went to Lourdes, in France, in April 1988 and May 1992, she dipped herself in the Miraculous Water of Lourdes, and, even when she came back to the hotel, she filled the bathtub with the water and immersed herself in it all night long. Even by doing that, the symptoms didn’t improve at all. But when she applied and washed herself with Naju Miraculous Spring Water, her hives completely disappeared.

Maria Kwon : 

Wow, hives which had not been cured even by hospital medical treatment for over 8 years were completely cured by Naju Miraculous Spring Water! It sounds so amazing. So the Message from Jesus, “Souls and bodies will be healed,” was fulfilled in Naju.

Julio : 

Yes, there’s another episode. I went up there a few days after Julia successfully dug the Spring of Miraculous Water, and I found there was a hose stuck in it. Even we couldn’t imagine how it happened. But there were already many other people drinking water from the spring. Someone from the lower village came to us and requested us to get the Water also. So I asked him, “What’s the matter?” He replied, “A person who had been suffering from stomach trouble for more than 20 years remained staying in our village hoping for recovery. And after drinking this Water, he got cured and returned home.” So he recommended us to drink the water without realizing we were the ones who dug the spring. But we were so happy in our hearts.

Subtitle : Traces were discovered that somebody got the Spring water already!

 “Get this water and drink it, as it is very good!”

Maria Kwon : 

Ah! Even the unbeliever knew it was good water, so he got the Water from the spring by using a hose and he was also cured.

Julio : Right.

Maria Kwon : 

Today, we talked about the background story, ‘Why and how the Lord and the Blessed Mother granted the Miraculous Spring Water in Naju?’ And according to a Korean proverb, “Sincerity is the way of Heaven.” I think God bestowed Heavenly Water to this earth because He was touched by Julia’s love, even risking her life to draw good water for her neighbors.

Thanks to her love, I think we’re enjoying Naju’s grace abundantly now. I would like to express my gratitude through this broadcast.
