The Naju Investigation Committee! Who and What was investigated?
Maria Kwon :
Hello, everyone! Good to have you all on our show ‘Show Me the Naju Fact’. Well, in the last episode, we heard the words of ‘St. Francis Salesian’ and learned about ‘The True Obedience’. Many people who watched the show left comments, “It is not ‘Not Obeying’, but it is ‘Unable to Obey’. It was a clear answer for those who weren’t able to make pilgrimages in order to obey the instruction of the Church Authority.” I’d like to introduce three of the comments to you before we start today’s episode.
First, Sophia wrote, “After listening to the details of the Naju shrine, suddenly I feel like visiting Naju. I’ve been ignorant until now. Really awesome! I heard it’s a heresy, but it is not. Thank you so much for revealing the truth.” Yes, and we appreciate your comment.
Next, a comment by Sung-Eun Kim, “ ‘Show Me the Naju Fact’ It’s so informative. It’s good information that we can correct the rumors.” And lastly, by Jeong In-Soo, “Thank you for uncovering gratifyingly the hidden truth for me.”
There are many other people who are with us in the comments. Thank you again for your comments, concern, encouragement, and support. We’ll continue to reveal the hidden truths. Please look forward to it. Well, today I look forward to seeing another amazing fact being revealed. Let me introduce the panelists who will explain the fact about ‘the Naju Investigation Committee’. Good to have you with us!
Mr. Peter Kim, Sr. Michaella :
Hello!
Mr. Peter Kim :
I’d like to reveal the detailed truth on whether or not ‘the Naju Investigation Committee’ of Gwangju Archdiocese conducted an objective and thorough investigation. I’m sure, if you stay with us until the end of this show, you will discover the astonishing fact.
Sr. Michaella :
Yes, right. I heard that wrong information spread among the faithful saying “the investigation about Naju had been done. And it was proven Naju is wrong. So, don’t go there”. I am so sorry for that. We will check the fact thoroughly on it today.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, today’s theme is, ‘The Naju Investigation Committee! Who and what was investigated?’ First, can you tell us how this Investigation Committee was organized?
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes. It was on November 24, 1994, when the Archbishop Giovanni Bulaitis, the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to Korea, made his official visit to Naju. After he didn’t receive any reports (on Naju) from the Korean bishops or Gwangju Archdiocese, he decided to see for himself and discern it. At first he came with Msgr. Peter who was his secretary. Fr. Spies, Fr. Oh Sang-cheol, and Julia Kim were also there together with several companions.
Since the Nuncio came here as representative of the Holy See, he requested that no one, except the relevant companions, to enter the Chapel. While they were praying together, the Blessed Mother told Julia Kim, “Receive blessings so that your hands may become clean.”
So, Julia received blessing from the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio and Fr. Spies, and they anointed her with Fragrant Oil from the Blessed Mother on her forehead and both hands. And, right after that, Julia received a Message. At that time, a large Eucharist in two pieces, engraved with ‘A’ and ‘Ω’, descended in a strong light. Without knowing it, she gave the Eucharist with ‘Ω’ in her right hand to the Apostolic Nuncio on the left, and the Eucharist with ‘A’ in her left hand to Fr. Spies on the right, by crossing her arms.
Maria Kwon :
Oh, then it means there occurred a Eucharistic miracle when the Apostolic Nuncio was in Naju, right?
Sr. Michaella :
Yes. The Nuncio was so delighted and said, “Now everyone may enter the Chapel.” As soon as Fr. Spies received the Eucharist, he broke the Eucharist in two and gave one to Rufino for Communion. Julia suggested to the Nuncio, “Your Grace, what about sharing at least a little with these pilgrims here also?” He replied, “Okay.” He gave a little to Julia and instructed the faithful to que in two. Even after giving Holy Communion to 5 priests and more than 70 believers, the Eucharist was not completely consumed. They preserved the remaining Eucharist in a pyx.
Maria Kwon :
Oh, then, it means that as a quarter of the Eucharist was already consumed(by Rufino), three-quarters of the Eucharist was enough for more than 70 believers, and yet had leftovers. It’s such a marvelous event I can’t even imagine.
Sr. Michaella :
Yes. Because it’s a Eucharist from heaven, the pilgrims went to the other line and received Holy Communion again not only once, but twice or even three times. Furthermore, many of them, including the Apostolic Nuncio, witnessed that the Eucharist’s size returned each time after breaking it to distribute. At that time, they got (spiritual and physical) healing by consuming the Eucharist from Heaven.
Maria Kwon :
Oh, that’s amazing. It reminds me of the miracle of ‘Five Loaves and Two Fish’ in the Bible.
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes, it does. After Communion, Julia Kim tried to leave the Chapel to write the Messages given to her. But, suddenly the Blessed Mother called her to come to Her by holding the hands of both the Apostolic Nuncio and Fr. Spies. They began to pray together before the statue of the Blessed Mother. At that moment a small Eucharist descended into Julia’s mouth. On seeing it, the Apostolic Nuncio said, “Now I believe this miracle not just 100%, but 200%.”
Sr. Michaella :
Later, the Archbishop gave his testimony. When the large Eucharist descended, he believed it at first, but had a doubt momentarily. At that moment, the Blessed Mother, knowing what was in his heart, said to Julia, “Julia! Hold the hands of the Apostolic Nuncio and your spiritual director, and come to me in a hurry!” So while she was praying holding the hands of the Apostolic Nuncio and Fr. Spies before the statue, the small Eucharist came down into her mouth.
As both her hands were holding the Nuncio and her spiritual director, it was clear that the Eucharistic miracle could not be denied. Furthermore, in the second Message on that day, the Blessed Mother called him “Giovanni!” and he was amazed because only his family members called his name ‘Giovanni’.
Mr. Peter Kim :
The Apostolic Nuncio, who had the amazing experiences, reported this by letter to the Prefect of ‘the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples’ which holds the supreme responsibility for the pastoral ministry for the Korean Church. And he told the Gwangju Archdiocese about his experience (in Naju) and urged them to investigate, “How come you haven’t investigated these many miracles in Naju for over nine years?” So, after his visit, the Archdiocese hurriedly organized the Investigation Committee of the diocesan priests on December 30, 1994. They had their first meeting on January 9, 1995.
Maria Kwon :
This means that the diocese organized only after being urged by the Apostolic Nuncio. I heard that the Archdiocese announced that ‘the Naju Investigation Committee’ had conducted a thorough and careful investigation for three years. What kind of investigation was that?
Mr. Peter Kim :
There had been, for three years, no thorough and careful investigation conducted.
Maria Kwon :
You said, ‘There had been, for three years, no thorough investigation.’ Then, what happened?
Mr. Peter Kim :
The Investigation Committee visited the Chapel of the Blessed Mother of Naju only once in those three years. They interviewed 14 people ONLY, of which, only seven were related to the Blessed Mother’s House. The other seven, almost all of them had no knowledge of the Blessed Mother’s House of Naju and were randomly chosen from Naju parish church. The interview was conducted with ridiculous contents.
Maria Kwon :
Well, I think they interviewed only a handful of people! You just mentioned about ‘the ridiculous contents’. What was the interview about?
Mr. Peter Kim :
For example, they randomly called seven people who were leaving the church after the Mass. Choi Lawrence, one of the elders of the Naju parish church, testified about the Blessed Mother of Naju. When the others were questioned, “What do you think of the Blessed Mother’s House?” They replied, “I don’t know,” and left. This couldn’t be a meaningful interview, isn’t it?
Maria Kwon :
I can’t remove from my mind that they just performed such superficial interviews that wouldn’t achieve meaningful responses. Then, how about the interviews with the persons related to the Blessed Mother of Naju?
Sr. Michaella :
There were seven, including Julia Kim and her husband. When ‘the Naju Investigation Committee’ investigated Julia Kim, who was the person directly linked to the Revelation and the Miraculous Signs, they asked incomprehensible questions even from a common-sense point of view. If you look at the contents of the interview, it wasn’t related to the Apparition or Miracles, and had no relation to the Blessed Mother of Naju.
Maria Kwon :
Please explain it in detail.
Q. What were the questions during the interview between the Investigation Committee and Julia Kim?
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes. Julia Kim was interviewed (only once) at the Gwangju Archdiocesan office from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on January 26, 1996. The interviewers were eight, including Fr. Kim Jae-young, the chairman of ‘the Naju Investigation Committee’, Fr. Jang Yong-ju, Fr. Lee Jae-min, and Fr. Lee Soon-sung. Here are some excerpts of the absurd questions asked.
They asked, “Have you read Fr. Stefano Gobbi’s book: To The Priests, Our Lady’s Beloved Sons?” She replied, “No, I haven’t.” “Then, did the Blessed Mother read it for you?” (During the formal interview,) The priests were laughing while talking to each other.
Sr. Michaella :
And again, “Is the Virgin Mary a chatterbox? She gave you such a long message.” She replied, “I only wrote down what the Blessed Mother said.
I think that a mother can give her children explanations, such as when they do not listen or understand.”
Maria Kwon :
Well, even hearing what you’ve said, it’s not questions based on the objective grounds, but it sounds like questions made up to only mock or jest.
Sr. Michaella :
Yes, you can also check the full text of the interview through the clip. Unfortunately, only those kinds of questions continued throughout the interview. They kept on asking sarcastic questions, and said, “The Church is doing fine right now, being faithful to the orthodox Faith. Does the Blessed Mother think that something is wrong with our Church now?” Julia said “I just wrote down what She said to me as it is,” she replied.
Mr. Peter Kim :
Then, one of the priests next to him asked, “Will it be okay if we move the Blessed Mother’s statue to the Archdiocesan office?” She replied, “If pilgrims are allowed to visit and pray, it will be fine. However, if the Blessed Mother’s statue will be left alone and neglected, it cannot be done.” She added, “I only wish to live in hiding.”
In fact, when Fr. Lazarus Lee Chun-soo was the Naju parish priest, Julia thought she was so unworthy to keep the statue that she told Fr. Lazarus that she wanted the statue of the Blessed Mother to be enshrined in the parish church. The priest accepted it gladly, and for affirmation, he went to meet the diocesan bishop to ask permission twice. However, Archbishop Yoon Gong-hee declined the proposal saying “No, the Church won’t take away her personal belongings. The Statue that belongs to Julia should be kept by her.”
Maria Kwon :
I see. Julia Kim wanted the statue of the Blessed Mother to be enshrined in the parish church, but rather, the Archbishop refused it, for it is a private belonging.
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes. She knew well if the statue of the Blessed Mother of Naju was taken to the diocesan office, it wouldn’t be venerated as a pilgrim statue. But before she could answer this question, a priest asked her another one, and another priest even talked to her in a straight face.
“Come on, Mrs. Julia Kim! I talked to you just to reduce your pains. You should have just said to the bishop, ‘Please take the statue’. But you say…” As he spoke, he became excited and stretched out his two hands. So the chairman priest of the Investigation Committee spoke in a ridiculing manner, “For the sake of investigation, you should hand over the statue to us, if we ask for it. And he added, “Theologically, it is impossible that God the Father speaks!”
Maria Kwon :
“Theologically, it is impossible that God the Father speaks?” But we learned from the church that by His Word, God created Heaven and earth. Well, I feel that those words denied the numerous records in the Bible.
Sr. Michaella :
Fr. Kim Jae-Young, the chairman of the Committee, was the one who had visited the Blessed Mother’s Chapel, and he himself had held the hand of the statue of the Blessed Mother and felt Her pulse. He rejoiced a lot. However, he was the same person who said “It is impossible that God the Father speaks!” “Jesus and the Blessed Mother could speak, because they were born with the human nature, but they had already died two thousand years ago and, therefore, they cannot speak anymore.” This is truly absurd.
Maria Kwon :
Oh, it really is. As we know there are so many Messages of Marian apparitions that the Church recognized in the 20th century. Nevertheless, when the priest said, “Virgin Mary can’t speak,” I suspect that he didn’t know much about the Messages from Our Lady or was unwilling to investigate the Apparition.
Sr. Michaella :
Yes. I heard that one of them even said, “To come down to earth, the Blessed Mother will have to come through the sky. But how can she, when it is so cold up there? The other priests all laughed loudly. Those sacrilegious remarks by the priests of the Investigation Committee were like denying all Apparitions in the world in Catholic history for 2,000 years. Moreover, “Jesus can’t talk because He already died two thousand years ago.” This constitutes a firmed denial of our faith about the Resurrection of Jesus. This statement has serious theological errors.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, it truly does. Now we’re checking the fact. I even think that this part denies the Resurrection of Jesus and is a serious Un-Catholic remark.
Sr. Michaella :
Yes, the priests began asking other questions without even giving her time to answer the previous questions. “What can you do, if I do not believe in the Blessed Mother’s messages or any of these things?” Julia replied, “Even if you do not believe, what can I do? I cannot do anything. I can only pray.” Then all the priests laughed out loud again.
Mr. Peter Kim :
In fact, before that, Archbishop Yoon, the diocesan bishop, has believed and accepted the Messages from the Blessed Mother of Naju. On June 24, 1990, the Wonju diocesan bishop Ji Hak-soon invited Julia to the 25th anniversary of the founding of his diocese, and in parallel to this, his ‘Silver Jubilee’ celebration. At that time, Bishop Ji introduced her to Archbishop Yoon Gong-hee (The Gwangju Archbishop) saying “Julia, if you need any support, you can ask all to Archbishop Yoon now.”
Then he said to Archbishop Yoon Gong-hee, “I also visited Naju and witnessed the Blessed Mother’s weeping Tears, and the statue’s moving. And my diabetes level is now only 100 which used to be over 500 before.” Archbishop Yoon said, “Really?” he listened to Julia smiling. When Julia said, “We must make the Messages known to people quickly,” he replied, “Yes, the messages are very important words that we all need in this current age.” And he added, “Let us meet again next time with the parish priest (of Naju church).”
Sr. Michaella :
So in 1991, during Ad Limina Visit of Korean bishops, Gwangju Archbishop Yoon reported to Pope John Paul II, “The statue of the Virgin Mary is weeping Tears in our diocese also.” Holy Father commented, “In this matter, it’s important to observe fruits from it.”
If the Vatican and the Korean Church had worked in one mind and one heart at the time, Naju shrine would probably have been officially recognized, and the status of the Gwangju Archdiocese would have been elevated, too. The great number of pilgrims from all over the world would have rushed to Naju, and all the people in the whole world could have accepted the Messages of the Blessed Mother of Naju and they would have practiced the Five Spiritualities, and finally, the Church could have been reformed.
Maria Kwon :
Well, I think it must be really amazing even to hear that. Since Archbishop Yoon had reported about it to the Pope, I wonder what progress was made after that. Did Archbishop Yoon meet Julia?
Mr. Peter Kim :
He had taken it positively and he said that he would observe only the spiritual fruits from Naju following the Pope’s comment, but unfortunately, no actual meeting was ever made due to a certain external pressure. When Fr. Lee Lazarus was the Naju parish priest, Archbishop Yoon said to Julia, “As so many people have witnessed the Tears and Tears of Blood, I have no doubt about it. And there’s no error in the Messages, either.” The other priests said that he had spoken the same during the priests’ meeting.
Sr. Michaella :
But to conceal the Archbishop’s remark, one priest of the Investigation Committee said, “The bishop didn’t acknowledge the Tears, Tears of Blood and Messages, did he?” When Julia tried to answer it, they suddenly changed the topic. In addition, those priests didn’t hesitate telling lies.
A priest said “You say you were very sick. But Julio (Julia’s husband) says that he did not know what kind of illness you had”, which was lying without hesitation with full of mockery. The fact is that when Julio was questioned, he said, “Julia was sick all over from head to toes (due to her terminal cancer), but she’s healed now.” Throughout the interview of her husband, Julio Kim, the priests concentrated on all the miscellaneous rumors around them, but not on the Miraculous Signs or Messages. Julio said that he was heartbroken when he was being interviewed.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, I can imagine how he had felt. It is absurd that the investigation was conducted with questions that seemed vain and sarcastic, neglecting the important questions to determine the authenticity of the Blessed Mother’s Apparition.
Sr. Michaella :
This kind of questioning continued. When the priests asked her, who cries out “Abortion is murder”, “I heard that you had an abortion. Is it true?” She said she has never had an abortion before, but they even insisted that she wrote it in her diary in her own handwriting.
And they asked, “What are the dates that you took your daughter to the hospital and her ‘Sacrament of marriage’?” She replied, “I can’t remember the exact dates.” Then the Chairman priest who was supposed to lead the investigation in the right direction said, “Huh, you don’t remember such an important date? That is really funny.” He was despising her, even poured out preposterous stories of her daughter, giving her no chance to clarify at all.
Maria Kwon :
Well, I really don’t understand why he brought up a story about her daughter’s wedding. The Interviews of Naju Investigation Committee were at this level. I think this is unknown to most people until now.
Mr. Peter Kim :
That’s right. It’s so heartbreaking that they didn’t pay attention to the Messages or the Miraculous Signs, and rather, focused on unnecessary questions about her daughter. They regarded the false rumors of her children as if it was fact, and did not give her any chance to answer. Then the allocated three and a half hours passed.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, it’s a shame and frustrating. There was only a single interview conducted at the level of ridicule and verbal abuse, focusing on private issues rather than investigating the phenomenon of Marian Apparition. And there were serious erroneous remarks which do not correspond to the Catholic belief. It’s such a lamentable situation. And I think viewers who are watching this broadcast, are also very astonished also.
Mr. Peter Kim :
I agree. Even though the Archbishop said he would look at only the spiritual fruits, it is a shame that the investigation was conducted inappropriately. In the meantime, countless fruits of love have been born from the Blessed Mother of Naju in clusters. Terminally ill patients and the patients who were told to prepare for the last day in the hospital were healed. Especially sick families became holy families through repentance. People have come to have a new life through countless spiritual and physical healings. None of these people were investigated. What kind of investigation was this?
Maria Kwon :
Well, we’re now checking the fact that there hasn’t been any single interview on the countless fruits (from the Blessed Mother of Naju).
Sr. Michaella :
27:37~
Well, it is very regrettable that the Naju investigation committee never investigated the Eucharistic Miracles which are the most noted miracles among all in Naju. In contrast, for the Apparition of the Virgin Mary of Bethania in Venezuela, South America, 2000 people were interviewed by the archbishop of the diocese. While their investigation was ongoing, a Eucharistic Miracle occurred there. Then the Archbishop concluded all the investigation processes, and recognized the apparition as a supernatural phenomenon.
Maria Kwon :
They interviewed 2,000 people? It’s quite opposite from the Gwangju Archdiocese who only interviewed 14 people and visited the Apparition site of the Blessed Mother in Naju just once.
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes, it is. Bethania was recognized with a single Eucharistic Miracle, but what about Naju? Jesus has performed Eucharistic Miracles through Julia Kim 33 times! However, during the interview with Julia, not even a single word of ‘Eucharistic Miracle’ was mentioned! Even though so many clergy witnessed the Eucharistic Miracles in Naju! Furthermore, during the investigation period by the committee, Pope John Paul II himself witnessed the Eucharistic Miracle through Julia.
Maria Kwon :
You mean the Pope personally witnessed a Eucharistic Miracle (through Julia)? And it happened when the investigation was conducted at that time? Can you tell us more details about the Eucharistic Miracle witnessed by the Pope?
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes, on September 19, 1995, Pope John Paul II dispatched Msgr. Vincent Thu, his personal secretary, to Naju to convey his message of consolation to Julia : “I extremely love and respect the Blessed Mother of Naju and Julia Kim.” and invited her to the Vatican. On October 31, 1995, during a Mass celebrated by the Pope in his private chapel, the host that Julia received from the Holy Father turned into (visible) Flesh and Blood on her tongue. Thus the Pope personally witnessed that miracle.
That also happened on the eve of the 49th anniversary of his ordination, and also the day of celebrating Pope Pius XII’s Consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Holy Father gave his blessing to Julia, made a cross on her forehead with his hand, touched her cheek, and also gave his blessing for her family in Korea. And he gave his instruction to share this grace with others.
Maria Kwon :
The Pope witnessed the Eucharistic Miracle himself and gave instructions to share the grace with others. I think that is a huge event.
Sr. Michaella :
Yes, it is. In the following year, on March 21, 1996, during the Korean Bishops’ ad limina visit, Pope John Paul II testified, “I also witnessed the Eucharist which turned into flesh and blood in Julia’s mouth.” and advised and issued his instruction to the Bishops, “Share the wonderful grace in Naju with other countries in Asia.” However, most of the Korean Bishops and the Gwangju Archbishop didn’t comply with his instructions even though they were fully aware of his intention. Later, in March of 2001, when the Korean Bishops returned to the Vatican for their ad limina visit,
the Holy Father threw a serious question at the Bishops during a meeting: “How is the situation in Naju?” Despite his guidance, no further measures were taken for Naju. Thus on May 19, 2001, Pope John Paul II granted the Eucharistic Miracle that he had witnessed, to be broadcasted throughout Italy. The TV programs were broadcasted several times after that.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, I fully understand, as you said, Holy Father particularly asked that question about Naju, yet the Korean Bishops neither responded nor complied to his instruction. Therefore, the Holy Father publicized information about the Eucharistic Miracle that he witnessed through the Italian national broadcast. It is an honor for us that the Holy Father supported Naju in this way. On the other hand, it is shame because I think the Holy Father, respecting a hierarchy in the church, had waited for compliance on his guidance about Naju, and did not see it followed through. Thus he had no choice but to share the Naju miracle himself through the Italian media.
Sr. Michaella :
Yes, it’s not only that case. In May 2001, American women were on a pilgrimage to Italy and they visited St. Michael’s Cathedral near the San Giovanni Rotondo, where the Shrine of Fr. Pio is. It is a well-known holy place where people from all over the world are constantly on pilgrimage. The photos of the Eucharistic Miracle through Julia Kim at the Vatican were also being displayed there.
The printed explanation in Italian on the exhibit said, “The Lord manifested this marvelous Eucharistic miracle before the eyes of John Paul II, or rather, he was one of the main participants of the supernatural phenomenon.” But, do you know what was significant there?
Maria Kwon :
What was it?
Sr. Michaella :
All Eucharistic miracles from the Catholic Church, including the one from Luciano, had displayed it along with all other recognized Eucharistic miracles including Naju’s! In other words, the Holy See publicly recognizes it. Pope John Paul II at the globally known holy shrine continuously testified the miracle in Naju, which had been not accepted in Korea.
The Pope, through the Secretariat of State, instructed them to display the Eucharistic Miracle through Julia and gave a permission to publish it in the Italian Catholic weekly magazine, Il Segno, and broadcast the information about Naju, including the Eucharistic Miracle he witnessed, on the major Catholic TV station throughout Italy. These gestures means that he approved the Eucharistic Miracle of October 31, 1995, as a trustful miracle, and officially recognized it as a miracle like the Eucharistic Miracle in Lanciano.
Maria Kwon :
I think this is the most important part of today’s talk. The fact that Pope John Paul II approved Naju by making it known through the Italian mass media! Then I wonder why the Gwangju Archdiocese, bypassed the Pope’s personal opinion about the Eucharistic Miracle before announcing its negative declaration on Naju on January 1, 1998? Didn’t they know that the Eucharistic Miracle occurred in the presence of the Pope?
Mr. Peter Kim :
They knew it. Naju had reported the details of the Eucharistic Miracle witnessed by the Holy Father to the diocesan office. Nevertheless, the Gwangju Archdiocese entirely turned a blind eye to the instruction of the Holy Father who told them, “Share the grace in Naju” and they issued the negative declaration about Naju in 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2011. In January 2008, the diocese even further declared an erroneous Decree, ‘anyone, regardless of his or her status and diocese, who visits Naju is automatically excommunicated.’ They have threatened countless believers around the world with this ridiculous fake news.
Maria Kwon :
Well, even though the Eucharistic Miracle at the Vatican happened within the investigation period, and it was reported to the diocese, the diocese not only turned a blind eye to it but also declared the decree which prevented pilgrimages to Naju. I think those series of acts ignored even the Pope’s instruction.
Mr. Peter Kim :
And there’s something else we definitely should not overlook. Concerning the Eucharistic miracle which took place on October 31, 1995 in presence of the Pope at the Vatican, the Pope has full authority to make decisions under the Holy See’s jurisdiction. The Pope’s measures gave a strong message to the Korean Church to stop its opposition toward the Naju phenomena, and to urge them to recognize it with a thorough reinvestigation.
Maria Kwon :
Well, judging from your explanation, I believe that the Pope gave us this message!
Sr. Michaella :
Yes, he did. And I’d like to emphasize that Pope John Paul II was canonized as a Saint by Church. To be canonized as a saint, the nominee would subject to very strict screening and a rigorous validation process by the Church. When the process started, Pope Benedict XVI ordered a thorough examination of the entire life of Pope John Paul II so that there would be no room for doubt about his holiness and character.
As you know, Pope John Paul II loved the Blessed Mother of Naju very much. He dispatched his secretary to deliver his message to Naju. He also invited Julia Kim to the Vatican, and he approved the Eucharistic Miracle as a witness to the supernatural phenomenon. In addition, in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope himself spoke, “The Blessed Mother is weeping Tears in Naju, Korea.” After witnessing the Eucharistic Miracle in 1995, he told thousands of people who were praying ‘Angelus’ gathered at the square, “I also witnessed the Eucharistic Miracle.”
Maria Kwon :
If the Pope told the people who gathered at St Pater’s Square, “I’ve witnessed a Eucharistic Miracle, too,” we can conclude that he supported Naju and that he testified his love for the Blessed Mother of Naju.
Mr. Peter Kim :
We should notice that the Vatican is strictly considerate and thorough in its investigation including its final affirmation for Beatification and Canonization. If Naju is false, as the Gwangju Diocese declared, the Church would have never recommended a person who accepted a false miracle nor given the instruction for his canonization.
But the Beatification and Canonization of Pope John Paul II was the fastest in the history of the church. That means that the ‘Congregation for the Causes of Saints’ thoroughly investigated the lifetime of John Paul II’s reign and determined that there was no room to stop or delay his Beatification and Canonization.
Maria Kwon :
Yes. His entire life was thoroughly examined, and there was not a flaw detected, so he was finally canonized as a saint. I think any person with common sense could tell what is true. This is an important point.
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes, it’s very important. I think this is something that we shouldn’t overlook since it is so important.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, then, I think the Naju investigation committee intentionally turned a blind eye to the Eucharistic Miracle. Were there any other Eucharistic Miracles that occurred when the investigation was in progress?
Sr. Michaella :
15 Eucharistic miracles occurred during the three-year investigation. Since first Eucharistic Miracle, 19 Eucharistic miracles occurred by December 31, 1997 (the concluding day of the committee)
Here are some of the major Eucharistic miracles.
On November 2, 1994, Fr. Martin Lucia, an internationally known promoter of perpetual adoration, celebrated Mass in St. Anthony’s Church in Kailua, Hawaii
On November 24, 1994, the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio, Archbishop Giovanni Bulaitis, the secretary priest to Nuncio, and six priests
On August 24, 1995, Bishop Dominic Su from Malaysia
On September 22, 1995, at the Blessed Mother’s Mountain, Bishop Roman Danylak from Canada
On October 31, 1995, in the Vatican, St. Pope John Paul II
On September 17, 1996, witnessed by Bishop Dominic Su in the Cathedral in Sibu, Malaysia
On July 13, 1997, Mgr. D’ercole, the private secretary of Pope from the Holy See witnessed the descent of the Sacred Host in the Chapel of the Blessed Mother of Naju
Setting aside the numerous faithful who also witnessed Eucharistic Miracle in Naju, the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio urged the investigation Committee to organize after witnessing the Eucharistic miracles, yet none of those eyewitness clergy whom I just mentioned were interviewed or investigated.

Wow~ The Pope, Bishops, and Monsignors. A lot of high-ranking prelates were eyewitnesses to the Eucharistic miracles of Naju. But the Gwangju Archdiocese declared that they conducted a careful and thorough investigation on the Naju Phenomena. I had believed it as it was declared, but as I hear it today, I now realize the investigation was so sloppy. If this is the case, the word “thorough investigation” was not only false, but it was a deliberate lie.
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes, I agree. On November 24, 1994, Father Oh of the Chuncheon diocese, who witnessed the Eucharistic miracle together with the Apostolic Nuncio, said during a phone call with Albino, the volunteer, “I was at the site when ‘the Descent of the Eucharist’ occurred. But the Gwangju Archdiocese neither investigated me nor questioned any opinion as a Korean priest. The investigation is fundamentally wrong. So I can’t believe any of the announcements from the Gwangju Archdiocese.”
Maria Kwon :
Yes, he even witnessed it personally, but was never interviewed at all, so it’s no wonder he countered like that. Once again we let you know the fact that there was not one interview with the many high-ranking clergy who witnessed the Eucharistic Miracle. I think it is clear that the Committee had no intention to carry out any proper investigation.
Mr. Peter Kim :
Yes! That’s right! There was also an incident where this was clearly demonstrated. At the time, a Naju parish priest was one of the members of the Naju Investigation Committee. On June 30, 1995, during the period of the investigation, at the Mass celebrated by the parish priest, a miracle occurred where the Eucharist turned into Flesh and Blood in Julia’s mouth.
The believers were amazed to witness a Eucharistic miracle during the Mass. But at that moment, the priest said to the faithful, “What is this fuss all about? The Eucharistic miracle happens at every Mass.” He rebuked the faithful.
For a member of the Investigation Committee, it’s a golden opportunity by the Lord to witness the Eucharistic miracle in person. When the faithful informed him of the Eucharistic Miracle, if he had shown just a little of his concern on it, he would have witnessed the Miracle in his own eyes.
Naju pastor, a member of the Investigation Committee, was not interested in the Eucharistic Miracle at all which occurred even before his eyes in his parish.
He yelled at the faithful instead…
Let’s just assumed that he was ignorant about what happened actually. Then, as a member of the Committee, he could at least check or investigate it after the Mass. But nothing was done up to now. How can they say the Committee conducted ‘careful and thorough investigation for three years’. It’s absurd.
Maria Kwon :
Well, the more we check the facts, the more astonishing things we find. We can see that not only the Eucharistic miracle in front of the Pope, but also the Eucharistic miracle during the Mass by the priest, who was one of the Committee members, has not been investigated at all. Then, I wonder why they are ignoring and denying the Eucharistic miracles like this.
Sr. Michaella :
Fr. Lee Soon-sung, who was the general secretary of the Naju Investigation Committee, wrote in the official magazine of the Korean Bishops’ Conference: “Pastoral Care”, issued in March, 1998, “The real reason for rejecting the phenomenon of Eucharistic miracle” in Naju was to promote the unity with the Protestant brethren”
In the Protestant conception, the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist is just symbol but the committee denied the Eucharistic miracle for the unification with the Protestant Church.
Maria Kwon :
Oh, it’s really shocking. The reason for denying the Eucharistic Phenomena in Naju was for the sake of unification with Protestantism. It’s an unbelievable fact.
Mr. Peter Kim :
‘The Act of Ecumenism’ must be pursued on the basis of the truth of God. No one has the authority to compromise or modify God's truth in the name of unification.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, I agree. But I don’t think most believers know this at all. Just by hearing what the priests said in the church, “Naju is not true,” I’m sure a lot of people just thoughtlessly accepted what was said. We are telling you the fact that the Eucharistic miracles in Naju had been denied partially because of this so-called unification reason.
Sr. Michaella :
That’s right. Unlike in the past, things are more transparent these days. Especially, for the things of the public interest and the public’s right to know. In the Bible, Jesus said, “There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. Whoever has ears ought to hear.” No one can cover the sky with his hand.
Maria Kwon :
Yes, I think that’s exactly what we’ve learned today about the Naju Investigation Committee. The problems in the investigation by the committee are as follows: Denial of the Resurrection of Jesus! Questions that contradict the Catholic faith! A mockery against an individual! Denial of the Eucharistic miracle acknowledged by the Pope! Even if they declare they have done a thorough investigation, I believe that the hidden truth will not be concealed forever.
