💌 618. Where Could He Be, the Director of Internal Medicine, Who Urgently Told Me, “Go to the Gynecologist Immediately!”
After being discharged from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Busan, I had a final checkup at Maryknoll Hospital before returning to Naju. Seeing how much worse I had become compared to when I first went to Busan for treatment, my mother and those around me were very worried. They said, “The ongoing suffering is delaying your recovery.” But I replied, “If through my suffering I can bring comfort to the Lord and the Blessed Mother and help sinners repent, then it is a pain filled with happiness.”
As I offered up my suffering graciously, my family also joyfully joined in offering it up with me. Upon returning to Naju, I decided to visit the Director of Internal Medicine at Naju Hospital to express my gratitude. He was the one who, when I went for treatment for my throat, ears, and nose, told me that it was not the issue and that I should immediately see a gynecologist. That is why I wanted to thank him.
When I thought about the severe adhesions between my uterus and intestines, I felt incredibly grateful to him. If he had only examined my ears, nose, and throat without considering anything further, what would have happened to me? I was in such a dire condition that my abdomen was described as “like rags.” Thanks to his helpful advice, I was able to receive the urgent treatment I needed at that critical moment. For this reason, I went to see the Director of Internal Medicine at Naju Hospital.
When I arrived at Naju Hospital, I found that the Director of Internal Medicine I was looking for was no longer there; someone else had taken over the position. I asked a nurse, “The previous director is not here anymore?” She replied, “The former director?” I answered, “He was here about three months ago.” She said, “Pardon? The current director has been here since before then. You must be mistaken.” I replied, “I am sure I was seen by a different director, even twice.”
Saying, “Yes? What on earth are you talking about? The director has not changed to anyone else,” she tilted her head in confusion as if she had never heard of it. Normally, I rarely look at the faces of men but I saw the director twice and his impression stayed with me. “Oh? How strange! He was surely handsome, kind, and considerate.” I went all around the hospital but I could not find him anywhere in the end.
Regretting that I was unable to thank him, I returned. When I followed the advice of the Director of Internal Medicine of that hospital and went to the top obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Yeosu, where I was diagnosed with severe uterine and intestinal adhesions, I did not wonder or ask myself at that time, “How did the Director of Internal Medicine at Naju Hospital know there was a problem with my uterus?”
“I had gone there to get treatment for my ears, nose and throat but how could the Director of Internal Medicine have examined my abdomen first and immediately told me to go to the gynecologist urgently?” At that time, with a simple heart, I just accepted the director’s words, thinking they were the Lord’s will. Later, when I returned to Naju Hospital and could not find the director, the thought fleetingly crossed my mind: “Could it have been Jesus?”
However, it was only while writing “The Life Prepared By the Lord” that I came to realize for sure that Jesus Himself had appeared in the form of a doctor and spoken to me. Once, I compared my weight before and after experiencing the pain in reparation for the abortions. My weight had increased from 54 kg to 62 kg, an increase of 8 kg. It is said that pregnant women close to giving birth typically gain about 7–10 kg.
During a normal pregnancy, the abdomen gradually expands over 10 months as the baby grows. However, during the pains in reparation for the abortions that I experienced countless times, my abdomen would swell to full-term size in an instant, causing my uterus to press down on all my internal organs. This is how the severe adhesions between my uterus and intestines were formed.
Had this condition gone unnoticed, it could have progressed to a bowel obstruction, potentially threatening my life. It was certain that, although Jesus could have healed me directly, He came in the form of an internal medicine director to save me from this great risk. Furthermore, the Lord sent me to Busan to reach out to souls in need of His touch and performed miracles of His love by using me as His instrument, despite my unworthiness.
Not only that, but it was the Lord’s will for me to have the hysterectomy. By removing my uterus, I was able to be freed from many false accusations afterwards. Reflecting on the Lord’s amazing providence, how could I not be grateful? I shed endless tears of gratitude, offering praise, thanksgiving and returning glory to the Lord.
“I give infinite thanks to the Lord and the Blessed Mother, Who never leave this sinner for even a moment and take care of me. Although this unworthy one has lived a life interspersed with suffering from birth to death, I entrust myself completely to You with the heart of a martyr, even though I am shabby and poor. I am Yours, whether I die or live. So, please use me only according to Your will. Amen!”
