💌 613. A 13-Ton Truck Hit a Van Heading to Busan for a Hospital Visit...

It had been nearly a month since I had been hospitalized in Busan for a hysterectomy. After being transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital, I received word that a total of eight people—including my parish priest, two nuns, my husband Julio, and members of the pastoral council—were planning to visit me. I assured them I was fine and asked them not to come but they all insisted, saying they missed me so much.

I offered up the Prayers of Life to the Lord for their safe arrival. They had decided to pray five decades of the Rosary as soon as they left Naju in the van. According to my husband, he was extremely tired that day and thought to himself, “Once I finish the five decades of the Rosary, I will lie down in the back of the van and sleep on the way.” When they arrived at Baegun-dong in Gwangju, the Rosary prayer had just ended and my husband was about to go to the back to lie down.

However, Chairman Lorenzo, kept talking to my husband from the side. So, my husband could not move to the back seat. He offered it up, thinking, “Alright, I will go to the back once this conversation ends.” He listened briefly to Chairman Lorenzo before the car stopped at a red light at the intersection. However, at that moment, a large 13-ton truck suddenly came from behind and mercilessly slammed into it!

A major accident occurred, resulting in a four-car collision, involving the van my husband was in, along with two cars waiting for the signal in front of the traffic lights at the intersection. It was said that those who witnessed the accident from the side all remarked, “Ah! The people in that van must all be dead.” It is said that the driver of the 13-ton truck did not see the traffic light and thought the cars in front of him were still moving. Since the young driver crashed into the car with such force, the small van in the middle was bound to be crushed!

Amongst the cars in front and behind, the van was the weakest and got caught in the middle. With the strong impact, the car was completely crushed, making it impossible to open the doors at both the front and back. It was said that, at first, everyone was in such shock that they seemed to lose consciousness for a moment. What is truly astonishing, however, is that despite such a big accident, not a single person died or was seriously injured.

Barely, they managed to escape from the van by squeezing through the driver’s side door. Aside from the chairman, who had only a slight injury to his finger and my husband Julio, who sustained minor injuries to his head and face, no one else was injured at all.

The witnesses around the wreckage were astonished when the people inside the van came out unharmed. If my husband had been sitting in the back at that time, he would have certainly died instantly. It was said that various foods and items, including rice cakes, which were prepared to be shared with others and placed in the back, were all completely ruined and even flew out of the van. The van was completely crushed and there was no choice but to scrap it.

And it was said that since the people inside were basically uninjured, they could not have survived if the Lord had not protected them. It was also said that everyone gave thanks and praise, certain that the Blessed Mother had spread Her mantle to protect them. At that time, upon hearing that a priest and others were coming from Naju, Father Yang from Busan arrived at my hospital room precisely at the expected time.

I am fine now, but at that time, it was extremely difficult for me to be alone with a man. However, there was no word from the people who were supposed to come from Naju and being alone in the same hospital room with that priest was incredibly difficult. Even a short time felt difficult and as two hours passed with no sight of the people who were supposed to arrive, I was enduring the hardship alone in agony.

After waiting for a long time with Semchigo as if I were with a stone statue, I asked the nursing Sister to contact Naju and find out what had happened. Then, she told me that there had been a traffic accident! Upon hearing this news, I immediately prayed to the Lord for them and told all of them not to come but to go to the hospital and receive treatment, even if they were not injured.

Therefore, only two of them—my parish priest and my husband—took the bus to Busan, while the chairman, who had injured his finger, along with the five others who were unharmed, all followed my advice and went to the hospital. And then, due to the accident, they ended up receiving treatment for areas that had been hurting before and as a result, they became much healthier.

I was certain that the Lord, Who already knew the accident would happen, had protected my husband through Chairman Lorenzo to prevent him from going to the back seat. I offered infinite gratitude to the Lord. “Without You, Lord, how could we see even an inch ahead? I am solely Your servant, so use me only as Your instrument. Oh, may all Glory, Praise, and Thanks be given to You forever and ever!”
