695. Climbing the Stairs While Doing Prayers of Life With Semchigo as if Carrying the Cross in His Place

One day, while we were volunteering together, President L confided in me about the suffering he was going through because of his wife. He would often talk to me about her, and each time, I advised him to accept everything as “my fault” and to offer it up with Semchigo as if he were loved by his wife. President L always responded that he would do so, but it seemed he struggled to put it into practice.

Once again, I spoke to him with love, but President L’s expression remained gloomy. Wanting to help him offer up his repeated difficulties well, I made a sacrifice by carrying his heavy bag with Semchigo as if I were carrying his cross, and climbed the stairs with him.

“Lord! As I carry this heavy bag up these stairs, I meditate on the heavy Cross You bore for the salvation of humanity and the repentance of sinners. Lord, I earnestly hope that this unworthy and small sacrifice, when united with Your infinite love, may lead to the complete fulfillment of Your will throughout the world. And as I carry in my heart, the cross of President L—bearing the sins of his wife and all the sins of the world—please let one sin be erased with every step I take,” I prayed aloud this Prayer of Life.

Then, President L’s face brightened, and he said, “Julia does not even read spiritual books, yet how is it that she offers up everything so well, just like Saint Thérèse of Lisieux?” I replied, “Is that not exactly what the Prayer of Life is? The Lord and the Blessed Mother desire a life of complete surrender and true offering up in everything we do.”

He then said, “I always feel ashamed in front of Julia. I have read nearly every Catholic book there is, and I have read the Bible so many times that some of my copies are worn out. But I still only know it in my head and speak about it, yet I am unable to truly put it into practice. I feel ashamed not only before the Lord and the Blessed Mother but also in front of Julia. I have always loved reading spiritual books, and I read so many of them that I know them intellectually and logically. But in reality, it is like an empty shell. However, Julia is truly a living embodiment of love!

You, Julia, are always the same—so simple and innocent like a child! And your love is not the kind that is understood through knowledge in the head, but a love that truly comes from the heart and is practiced. Saint Thérèse of Lisieux lived a life where everything was offered as a prayer, and in truth, Julia is no less than her. If I were to follow Julia’s example and live the same way, I believe that in the distant future, I too would be close to the saints in heaven...”

So I replied, “Now, the life I live is no longer my own. Therefore, if I have done anything well, it is because the Lord has guided me. And if I have done anything wrong, that is truly what Julia does. Thus, the one who deserves all praise and honor is only the Lord, and I am just an unworthy sinner.”

“Okay, I understand. From now on, I will learn your humility and give all glory to the Lord.” I was so happy that his heart became open and receptive. I prayed and sang for the Lord and the Blessed Mother to take the president’s wife by the hand.

“Beloved Jesus, come to L and guide him to live with love. Beloved Mother, take the hand of L and grant him victory through the resurrection of the Cross. Beloved Jesus, ignite our hearts with Your love and make us children who are pleasing to You. Amen!” I offered up this prayer, fully offering up President L and his wife to the Lord and the Blessed Mother. What could replace the joy of becoming an instrument of the Lord, making sacrifices for the sake of others, and offering up prayers!

I cried out to the Lord, “Oh! My Lord, my love! If You use this unworthy sinner as Your instrument to bring even one soul to repentance, guiding them on the path of sanctification to reach perfection and give glory to You, I will be nothing but grateful, thankful, and endlessly grateful. Through the prayer of this lowly and insignificant sinner, may the great work that You desire to accomplish be firmly rooted throughout the world.” And as I prayed, I heard the voice of the Lord, filled with joy, echoing in my ears.

“Oh! My love, my Little Soul! Your heart, which never neglects anything and offers up even the smallest things completely to Me, becomes a balsam fragrant oil that heals the wounds of My heart and My Mother’s torn Hearts. It will quench the burning thirst and lead sinners to repentance.”

The very next day, I received a call from President L. “Julia! Julia! Can you believe this? My wife, who used to be so difficult, has changed so much overnight, to the point where I am amazed at how well she is treating me now. The Prayer of Life, filled with your love, has transformed my wife. Julia! Julia! Now, I will strive to follow your example and make efforts without ceasing to turn my whole life into prayer. Thank you!”

I gave infinite thanks to the Lord for accepting the Prayers of Life of this unworthy sinner’s small sacrifice. “May the Lord and the Blessed Mother receive praise, thanksgiving, and glory forever and ever. Through all the good deeds of creatures, including myself, only You alone are worthy of praise and glory. Amen!”
