💌 683. Going to Offer Up Cutting the Volunteers’ Hair as the Prayer of Life—Then Came the Pain!

When I taught the Charismatic Renewal Movement volunteers to offer up their haircuts as the Prayers of Life, they began calling me once in a while to have their hair done. One day, sister Maria from Gwangju asked, “Julia, come to Gwangju and offer the Prayers of Life while cutting the volunteers’ hair.” So I packed my beauty kit and went up to Gwangju.

At that time, the beauty parlor I was running was so well-known that clients came not only from Gwangju but also from Seoul. It was always bustling with many customers. So stepping out of the parlor in the middle of such busy days was not easy. I felt very sorry for both the customers and the other hairstylists. It was even more difficult because many customers would leave if I was not there.

However, I believed that nothing mattered more than helping the volunteers grow humbler and smaller, so they could serve all as little souls and truly convey the Lord’s love. So, with a heart eager to do anything for them, I joyfully responded with “Amen,” practicing Semchigo as if I were cutting the hair of Jesus and the Blessed Mother, and set off without the slightest hesitation.

As soon as I arrived at sister Maria Lee’s house, I began cutting the volunteers’ hair one by one, offering up each cut as Prayers of Life.

“Lord! I am cutting this sister’s hair to beautify her body, but I ask You—each time I cut—please completely cut away not only this soul’s faults, but also the evil habits of pride, envy, jealousy, hatred, stinginess, lust, anger, greed, arrogance, selfishness, and the unforgiveness, from specially called children and all people in the world. Make their souls beautiful. Amen!”

While giving her a perm and blow-dry, I prayed, “Jesus! Since You have already cut away all that is bad from this sister’s soul, please now restore and heal the disordered parts of her soul. Bring back the love that has been destroyed to its proper state, and adorn her soul beautifully.” All day long, I offered the Prayers of Life as I cut and styled the volunteers’ hair.

Without saying a word, I offered everything up to the Lord as sacrifice and reparation. Giving glory to the Lord in this way filled my heart with quiet joy. After finishing the hair styling, we prayed together, and since it was late, I stayed overnight at sister Maria’s house. But in the middle of the night, my stomach suddenly twisted in intense pain. I could barely sleep a wink, and I offered up that suffering for sister Maria’s family, the Charismatic Renewal Movement volunteers, and the repentance of sinners.

At dawn the next day, I tried to get up, worried that others might be concerned if they saw how exhausted and in pain I was. Thankfully, no one had woken up yet, so I almost crawled quietly to the bathroom. Even as I washed my face to shake off the grogginess, I continued offering up the Prayers of Life for the volunteers.

“Lord! As I now wash away impurities from my body, please also cleanse the spiritual stains and lingering bad habits from the souls of the volunteers and myself. Through repentance, may we love and support one another, walking the path of love as humble little souls. May we become good children who fulfill Your will, and instruments without shame before You. Amen.”

Suddenly, an intense pain, as if my whole body were being wrung out, struck me. I collapsed onto the bathroom floor and began rolling in agony. The pain from head to toe was unbearable, and to make matters worse, my stomach, which had been aching all night, twisted again. Without realizing it, a cry burst from my lips: “Ugh!”

At the sound of my scream, the family rushed into the bathroom, carried me out, but the excruciating pain continued. Startled, sister Maria called my home and urgently said to my husband, “Mr. Julio! Julia is dying! Please come quickly and take her to the hospital!”
