💌682. Healing a Typhoid Fever After Several Days of Suffering in an Instant

One day, my eldest daughter suddenly came down with a high fever, chills and a headache showing symptoms of a cold. We went to Dr. Park’s pediatric clinic in Naju and they said it was just a cold. Although I had been taking her to the hospital daily for treatment and had been praying for her, there was no improvement and she was suffering greatly. So, I decided to leave the remaining tasks to the hairdressers and took her to a bigger hospital in Gwangju.

However, it turned out that it was not a cold; it was a typhoid fever. I then asked the head doctor, “Does she need to be admitted?” with concern. The doctor replied, “Details will be clearer once the test results come in but there is no need to hospitalize children so easily.” That gave me a little relief. But, to my surprise, when the test results came back, the doctor looked shocked and urgently said, “This is a severe form of typhoid fever that requires isolation; she must be admitted to the hospital.” I was shocked and immediately admitted my eldest daughter to the hospital and then I began to pray.

“Lord! Just as You healed Peter’s mother-in-law from the fever, please heal my daughter’s fever as well…” I prayed fervently and after a long while, sticky sweat began to trickle down my face. When I looked at my daughter, her face, once flushed red, now had a healthy glow.  She must have been feeling hot because she had kicked off the blanket and was no longer wearing her socks.

When I asked, “Where are your socks?” she replied, “When you were praying, it got so hot, I pushed them off with my feet. They are probably under the blanket. Mom, it was really, really hot while you were praying.” When we arrived at the hospital, she had been trembling all over with cold, wrapped in a thick blanket with an electric heating mat. But now, she was saying she felt hot and even tossed aside the clothes she had been  wearing!

At that moment, I knew that the Lord had healed her and I thanked Him, saying, “Oh! The Lord of love has healed my daughter.” The Lord extended His mighty hand and tended to her and the fever that had lasted for several days was instantly and completely healed.

The next morning, wanting to be sure of her healing, I asked the doctor, “Would you mind doing the fever test again?” The doctor looked at me with a puzzled expression and firmly refused, saying, “It is pointless; there is no need for another test.” He said this because the fever had been so severe that he had said she needed to be isolated.

Still, I did not give up and continued to plead. Then, the doctor said, “I have never seen someone like this lady,” and agreed to perform the test again. And how could this be? The fever symptoms, which had been so severe that she needed to be isolated for treatment, had completely disappeared and she had fully recovered. When I prayed for my daughter before coming to the hospital, the Lord could have healed her immediately but instead, He chose to confirm it so clearly and reveal His glory.

“Oh, my Lord! My Beloved! I thank You. You have shortened the time I would have spent with my daughter because You chose to use this unworthy, sinful handmaid as Your instrument. I will now dedicate the remaining time entirely to You.”

That night, after discharging my daughter, I was extremely tired. But, I practiced Semchigo as if I were loved and joyfully offered up my fatigue for the repentance of sinners. And as I promised the Lord, I gave the time I would have spent caring for my daughter to serve others in pain, offering everything for the glory of God.

I sought out those who were marginalized and suffering, becoming their hands and feet, as well as a companion to talk to. I also helped with cleaning and bought them delicious food. By thinking of the men as “little Jesus”and the women as “little Blessed Mother,” I helped them and my soul was filled with abundance of  joy.

I was so incredibly grateful to the Lord because it was through His healing of my daughter that I was able to practice love in this way. Even though it may be a small act of good deed, unless we carry it out with our own hands and experience it, how could we ever imagine the happiness that comes from sharing the Lord's deep love? At that moment, Jesus spoke to me in a voice filled with joy, as if whispering lovingly.

“My beloved baby! To give to the least among you is to give to Me. You have become a close friend to the least of these, offering them comfort and in doing so, giving all glory to Me alone. My heart is overflowing with joy. I hope that you will treat everyone as you would have Me, always.”

“Yes Lord, I will do my best to do so. May Your will be done through this unworthy, sinful handmaid. Amen!”
