💌 754. A “V”-shaped Fracture of the Big Toe for the Glory of Our Lady of Naju
It was nearing four full years since the elderly man, Mr. Andrew Bong, had regained his sight. During that time, his vision continued to improve and I had even replaced his glasses several times. On February 13, 1990, people from all over the country gathered at the Blessed Mother’s House for an all-night prayer meeting—about 90 from Seongnam, 85 from Suwon, one large busload from Busan, and many others from various regions.
As I was about to go out to deliver a message to the pilgrims, the telephone rang, startling me. I slightly caught my foot on the doorstep and stumbled. Immediately, my entire right big toe began to swell badly and hurt tremendously. Since it was nothing like a situation where the bone could have been broken, I found it strange. Nevertheless, I offered up the pain, practicing Semchigo as if I had been loved as sacrifice for the sake of the pilgrims who had come that day.
Limping on my injured foot and supported by others, I barely managed to make my way to the Chapel where the statue of the Blessed Mother was enshrined. As I offered up my pain while sharing the love of Jesus and the Blessed Mother, before I knew it, I no longer even felt the pain and joyfully delivered the message before returning. After the all-night prayer meeting ended, my family said, “If it is swollen that much, the bone is probably broken. Let us go to the hospital.” So we went to an orthopedic clinic in Gwangju.
When they took an X-ray, I was shocked to see that the bone in my right big toe was fractured in a “V” shape! The pain was excruciating, yet I offered it up in a Prayer of Life, practicing Semchigo as if I were loved—saying, “My beloved Jesus! Since many sinners in the world ceaselessly take steps toward the places where they commit sins instead of taking steps to praise God, I offer up this pain for their repentance and in reparation for their sins.”
So, with each step I took, I felt indescribable joy. At that time, I had already been invited a year earlier from Pittsburgh, USA, to a worldwide Marian conference and the date was fast approaching with all preparations nearly complete. I believed that the right big toe had been broken so easily and unexpectedly as a suffering permitted by God, knowing that great graces would come from the Pittsburgh Marian conference and I joyfully offered it up for the event.
Since the “V” also symbolizes “victory,” I thought, “Wow, I have triumphed!” and joyfully offered it up, believing that the Blessed Mother would be glorified at the Marian conference. However, many people strongly tried to prevent me, saying that going to the United States would be completely impossible because of my broken toe. Moreover, I am a completely right-handed person and they explained that the right big toe of a right-handed person is a crucial toe, supporting about 80% of the body’s weight.
But I was certain. Instead of praying, “Please heal me,” I accepted it as a suffering permitted by the Lord and offered it fully, saying, “I will joyfully offer up this for the glory of the Lord and for the repentance of sinners, for the Marian conference in Pittsburgh.” Even when the hospital doctors and people who had injured their big toes insisted that I could never go, I firmly replied, “No, I will go.”
“You will not be able to go,” they said.
“The Blessed Mother called me to be there. If I can deliver even a single word of the messages from Our Lady of Naju, I will go—even if both my legs were broken, I would go in a wheelchair.”
I felt even greater joy because I thought that, even though moving around in a wheelchair would be difficult, I could still offer it up through the Prayer of Life for the Marian conference and that through my suffering, the will of the Lord and the Blessed Mother would be accomplished.
At that moment, the Blessed Mother appeared, wearing a radiant crown and a blue mantle. She smiled joyfully and spoke tenderly:
“My daughter! Thank you. Your offering, sublimating every pain into joy through the power of love at each moment, is always beautifully presented to the Lord. Because of this, you are victorious over the devil every single moment. Oh, how joyful my heart is as I witness all of this… See! The devil sought to strike you down by wounding your feet, yet even that suffering you have beautifully offered up in joy and thus you were able to have triumphed over him.
Through your beautiful sacrifices and acts of reparation, My heart is greatly consoled. Moreover, through your love and sacrifice in joyfully offering such pain, many souls will receive the grace of repentance. Great blessings shall be poured upon My great feast—the Marian Conference in Pittsburgh. I am also shedding tears for those who have been invited to My feast. I will wash the souls of all who take part in My great feast, draw them into My burning, Immaculate Heart, and hide them beneath My mantle. Farewell for now.”
After the Blessed Mother disappeared, I looked at the statue of the Blessed Mother that had shed tears and saw that She was shedding tears of blood, which flowed all the way down to the tops of Her feet.
