๐752. The Elderly Man Pleaded with Me to Put His House in My Name, but I Staunchly Refused
As the elderly man, Mr. Andrea Bong, regained his sight and was able to do more on his own, things became a bit easier for me as well. When I prepared generous portions of food so he could eat well, the food would last him about three days, so I did not need to visit him every single day. There were so many things I had to do for the Blessed Mother who shed tears and as I tended to this and that, even though my heart longed to go, I could not get there as quickly as I wished.
And since he had regained his sight, I asked my husband to take him to the public bathhouse and help him wash and he gladly agreed. When Mr. Andrew Bong could not see, he had entrusted everything to me like a little child but after regaining his sight, it became a bit difficult and I was no longer able to bathe him myself.
Then one day, after three days had passed, I went to visit him again. But as soon as he saw me, he began to weep and said, โI wish I had not regained my sight...โ
Startled, I asked, โWhy would you say that?โ
He replied, โWhen I could not see, you came to visit me almost every day. But ever since I regained my sight, you have not been coming as often. Now that you do not come every day, I miss you so much I can hardly stand it. If I had not regained my sight, at least I would get to see you every day.โ
I said, โBut back then, you could not see me.โ
He replied, โThat is trueโฆ but still, I miss you every day.โ
At that moment, he looked just like a child pouting and longing for affection. Seeing him so upset that he even shed tears, I quickly said, โI am sorry. I will visit you more often.โ
He said, โI have something important to tell you.โ
โPlease, say whatever it is,โ I replied.
He said, โYou should grant this request.โ
โYes, I will do whatever you ask. Please tell me.โ
โI only have this one house. It is all I can give you. Although it is just a humble cottage, while I am still alive, please transfer the ownership of this house into your name.ย
Otherwise, the owner of the house behind my house will take my house. They are very malicious people who would never give it up after I am gone. So please, hurry and transfer the ownership to your name before I die.โ He ardently asked me. Hearing this unexpected request, I firmly refused, saying, โI absolutely will not do that at least.โ
I cared for him as if he were my own father, without any conditions, in the love of the Lord and the Blessed Mother. I did it because I wanted to share divine love with him. But if, at his pleading, I were to have the house transferred to my name, would it not seem like I cared for him out of greed for his property?
Thinking that such a thing would only obscure the glory meant to be offered to the Lord, I firmly refused, saying that I absolutely would not do it. The elderly man, with tears welling up in his eyes, pleaded, โWhen I die, it will just end up benefiting someone else for nothing.โ But my heart remained unmoved. After reassuring him, I quietly left the house.
However, every time I visited, he would bring it up again, saying, โAh-jim, when I die, the neighbors behind this house will take it. Before that happens, while I am still alive, hurry and transfer it into your name. You must do this.โ Though he pleaded with me again and again, I always waved my hand and firmly refused.
