๐ 745. Carrying the Elderly Man on My Back to Get Him Surgery Is Something Crazy?
While preparing for the elderly man's surgery, I gathered everything he needed and carried him on my back up to the third floor where his hospital room was. I did it with the heart of carrying the Cross together with Jesus. Just then, a woman who had beat me hard on the head beforeโsaying I was sick because I stopped volunteering in the Charismatic Movementโhappened to witness the scene. She was the same person who had previously called me crazy for refusing to join the Charismatic Movement and for associating with beggars.
But when she saw me carrying him on my back, to my surprise, she rolled her eyes and muttered, โThere she goes again, doing something crazy.โ At that moment, I could not help but feel very relieved that he was blind. I thought, if he could see, he would have realized that her scornful words and glare were directed at us and the thought made my heart sink.
I accepted being blamed and offered it up, practicing Semchigo as if I had been loved and taking it as my fault. But it deeply pained me that the elderly man, who had lived a poor life all his days, had to hear such words. If we truly follow the Charismatic Movement, what should we be doing? Should we not be seeking out those who do not know the Lord and the Blessed Mother and guiding them to live good lives?
Should we ย not be bringing sinners to the Lord, showing compassion and helping the poor neighbors who needed our hands and loving them even more? Thinking of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Mother, who must have been hurt by her judgment and harsh words, my heart ached. Yet, I accepted it as my fault, believing that because I was there she said those things and I offered up my painful heart for her repentance.
I also offered it up for his healing by practicing Semchigo as if she had said, โJulia, you are doing a good thing. I will pray with you that he opens his eyes.โ Carrying him up and admitting him to his hospital room, then caring for him, filled my heart with a joy that felt like it could soar. I was filled with hope that, surely, through the hands of the doctor, Jesus would soon open his eyes, as I had strong faith that He would do so.
The elderly man underwent surgery on his left eye first, which had also gone blind due to the influence of his right eye, whose optic nerve was damaged.ย
Finally at last, the surgery had began.ย
While it was underway, I prayed, โOh, my Lord! I believe that You will do it! Show Your power. Let it not be the surgeonโs hands but that You, Yourself, ย who will perform the operation through the Holy Spirit.ย
Lord, I believe that You Lord, can heal him directly and even through an unworthy sinner like me. Yet I also believe that You require such great sacrifices and acts of reparation for the conversion of sinners. So, just as You opened the eyes of the blind Bartimaeus, please open the eyes of Mr. Andrew Bong, as well. Lord, please work this out Yourself. Jesus! Please grant my earnest desire.โย
As I prayed with wholehearted, childlike faith and deep trust, the surgery came to an end. Whether he regained his sight or not, I gave thanks to the Lordโgrateful even just for the opportunity that he was able to undergo surgery. Without calculating or weighing the outcome, I entrusted everything entirely to Him.
